Reaction Statement: People that are poor should rely on friends, family, or church (religious organizations) for help, not the government.

I believe that people who are poor should rely on close friends and family for help, but especially the government. Our government is responsible for the welfare of its population, and it is obligated to protect them. If a person who is poor for instance has no family, and does not belong to a religious organization, where else will help come from? Chances are the friends that the poor person meets are in a similar situation to theirs and need the money they have to make it through the month. The government has a responsibility to help its citizens if they need it. I do not believe, however, that people should receive money from the government if they are not in dire need of it. If that person who is receiving the money is only going to drink it away or spend it all on drugs, then they should get help from an institution and end their problem. Then and only then should they be able to get the money from the government, because currently our government is in enough trouble as it is and cannot afford to make sacrifices in order to give money to the drunkards of the world. That may sound harsh, but I believe that if there is a government, it is necessary for it to “promote the general welfare” in a way that will not harm itself.
